Thanksgiving Food Drive

SavourVaughan Gives Back:

SavourVaughan Restaurant Week has once again teamed up with the Vaughan Fire Rescue and Fortinos in Woodbridge for a massive Food Drive to benefit the Vaughan Food Bank. The food drive will kick off at Fortinos on Hwy 7 and Ansley Grove Road on Saturday, October 3rd, 2009 with the support of a massive media blitz to heavily promote the event.

As a Corporate leader in our community, we are asking for your participation and sponsorship of the Food Drive. The Vaughan Food Bank is one hundred percent operated by volunteers, with no paid staff on board. Funding for the Vaughan Food Bank is supported by contributions from various corporations, individuals and the Pennywise Thrift Store. These funds go directly to the day to day operations of the Food Bank to ensure all families and individuals in need of assistance are taken care of. There is no monetary support from municipal, provincial or federal governments. We urge you to please join us and take action and support the food drive any way you can by d
onating non-perishable food items directly to the Vaughan Food Bank OR

Cash and Can City Challenge

For Immediate Release: (Vaughan, On) The 3RD Annual SavourVaughan Thanksgiving Food Drive to benefit the Vaughan Food Bank will kick off at Fortinos on Hwy 7 and Ansley Grove Road on Saturday, October 3RD, 2009 from 11am to 3pm sponsored by TD Canada Trust Bank Vaughan District and the Vaughan Fire Rescue, and proudly supported by The Knights of Columbus St. Peter's Council in Woodbridge.

SavourVaughan Organizers have issued a “Friendly City Challenge” to local businesses, neighbourhoods and City Wards to “reach out and lend a helping hand” this year.  The “Cash and Can City Challenge” encourages local communities, corporate businesses and Wards in the City to work together for a common goal.

Co-Organizer Elvira Caria says “The food drive is the hallmark of SavourVaughan’s tradition of community service. Today, people in our own neighbourhoods need our support to make ends meet in these economic times. Each and every family deserves a great Thanksgiving meal and collectively as a community we can help ensure that this happens.”

The challenge this year is especially important. The Vaughan Food Bank has seen an increase of over 25 percent more usage in the past few months and the demand to service these families is at a critical stage.  The Cash and Can City Challenge hopes to ease that pressure. Organizers are urging neighbourhoods to get together, donate a can or two and help make a difference.  The Challenge is also a call to action to local businesses to encourage their employees to bring a can to work during this time and present the “cans and cash” during the Food Drive. Local Councillors are also being urged to pound the pavement in their local wards to take the challenge and collect cash and cans for a great cause.

The goal of SavourVaughan is to reach $20,000 dollars before Thanksgiving Weekend.

Thanks to RBC, The Carpenters’ Union, BDC, The Hair Crew, SmartCentres, Gold Park Group, Zero 20 Bambini and U Weight Loss who have already confirmed their support by taking the challenge!

The Food Drive kicks into high gear Saturday October 3rd at Fortinos Woodbridge where everyone is invited to join Vaughan Fire Rescue and the Knights of Columbus for a fun filled day of food and activities along with prizes.  The Knights will be on hand to collect donations and serve up delicious treats.

People who do not have time to attend the Food Drive on October 3rd are still encouraged to participate. For more information on the Cash and Can City Challenge, please call 416-843-1778 or contact us at info@savourvaughan.com.
